Prize Competitions - Latest Reviews - One Thousand to One

One Thousand to One is a prize competition website offering players the chance of winning a choice of two cars: a BMW 320i convertible or an Audi A4 cabriolet. The competition is based on a simple game where the player answers one preliminary question before buying one ticket. As the name suggests, a maximum of 1,000 tickets are for sale at £40 each.

One Thousand to One

I came across this website about a month ago. First impressions were that I like the design of this site. You can see that it has been designed to have a "luxury" type feel, which fits in well with the prizes on offer.

£40 IS quite a lot to enter, and I have been wondering whether or not to go for it for the last few weeks, but on the other hand I would spend more than that on an evening out or some new clothes without a moment's thought! Having entered literally hundreds (or possibly thousands) of other comps online (many of them through MyOffers) and never won anything, it does make you wonder how many people must be entering, so for me it is very appealing to know exactly what your chances are of winning.

I personally do think that quite a few people would be willing to gamble £40 considering the favourable odds and the valuable prize, but I think most, like me, would need to go away and think about it first rather than impulse buy on the first viewing of the website.

I am likely to go for it in the end though, and I also really liked the fact that you can choose the type of car and colour of your choice if you win.

I think that this game is expensive

One Thousand to One

I like the idea of having a fixed number of tickets and only 1,000 seems like good odds to win a nice car like a BMW or an Audi, but I think £40 is a lot of money to spend in one ticket.

This is more of a lottery type game given how easy the question you are asked before buying the ticket, so it will appeal less to people who like skill competitions perhaps. I can't see any previous winners: there is a section for this but it is empty for the time being, when did this competition start? I like these two cars but I'm not sure they will sell 1,000 tickets given the price and the choice of prizes.

Also, I noticed this as well on some other prize competitions sites recently, there doesn't seem to be a closing date, what happens if it takes a really long time to sell all the tickets? I think the risk is that you buy a ticket and you don't hear back for a long time and it doesn't say anything on the site about the number of tickets sold so far. I don't think I will play on this one, nice concept though.
