Bidders pay a nominal fee to book a 'seat' in an on-line auction. Bidding is then free, with each bidder limited to the same finite number of bids. Auctions are fast-paced and bidders are able to view the status of their bids and the current direction of bidding; the information is updated as it is happening, so each subsequent bid can be strategically positioned.
