Best of the Best supercar competitions are run by a UK company that run win a car competitions both physically in UK airports and online. Winners choose from a selection of dream cars. The supercar competition winner, for example, chooses from a range of supercars, including the new Audi R8, Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster, Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Aston Martin DB9 Volante, Vanwall GPR, Mercedes CL63 AMG, Bentley Continental GTC, Ferrari F430, Porsche 997 Turbo and Ariel Atom. Best of the Best also features a number of instant games to win smaller value prizes like a Rolex, iPods and holidays.

The winner of the competition is determined using an online 'spot the ball' competition. Players are shown a photograph that has had the ball removed from it. They must use their judgement to spot the (erased) ball, deciding where they think the centre of the ball would logically have been. At the end of the competition the same picture is shown to a professional sporting judge in the presence of a lawyer and he marks (in exactly the same way) where in his professional opinion he thinks the centre of the ball ought to have been. The winner is the person who is closest to the judge's position. The same game is used for the instant win competitions.

I've come across these guys on several occasions whilst traveling for work, as they are pretty much present in all major UK airports. The stands, the cars, etc are all great and really professional. I have always been tempted, and so the other day I actually went to have a chat with the sales person in the terminal. What struck me is the way that this particular salesperson (and I am not saying this is a their company policy, although I see "Dave" below had a similar experience) unrelentingly tried to sell me a ticket. So far, so good, that's to be expected. However, when questioned about the exact odds, he persisted in trying to persuade me that the odds of winning we're on average 1 in 6000 (and of course I was apparently in luck, as this month's supercar competition hadn't sold as well).

Personally, I found this to be very irritating and bordering on the misleading. I do remember that a few years back the game formula consisted of fixed odds (or limited tickets sold), and granted, tickets were more expensive at the time. I think it was £40 minimum.

Since then it seems, they have rolled out new stands in the rest of the airports, and now that they feel confident to sell enough tickets, have changed the game to unlimited tickets, with a lower price tag.

This may work for some, and it certainly makes the game more accessible price wise. However, in that case they should not be trying to sell you tickets based on the odds. It simply doesn't make sense and ends up being a bit insulting, when you got some spotty, gelled up kid calling you "mate" (am nearly 45 years old), and trying to convince you that whilst the odds are unlimited, they are close to 1 in 6000. I simply lost interest and told him that I work as an actuary. I'm not sure he caught on, but that obviously means that numbers, and in particular odds are something I work with on a daily basis.

That brings me to the odds then. 1 in 6000 is not bad, if indeed those are the odds. However, I would suggest you look at some of the other car competitions around, as their odds are often far more favourable (I discovered a few thanks to this site - cheers). Unfortunately I cannot vouch for any of them except the Dubai airport raffle, which a friend of mine actually won. But if you can establish trust with any of the other promoters, you will probably find that you can buy a far better chance of winning with of them instead.

So in conclusion I'd say that whilst at least you know they actually exist, there is little else that distinguishes them from other supercar competition providers. They're just more expensive.

I kind of agree with what Linda mentions about the odds, which in my view is the most important aspect when looking at this comp as a consumer. They do not say how many tickets they sell, which is fair enough. However when I talked to one of their sales people in Heathrow I was nonetheless told that the odds are around 1 to 6000. That's definitely not the best odds out there for this kind of comp, and I found it a bit cheeky how their sales person basically tried to egg me into it based on odds, which were not set. So, this one is not for me, and I would recommend that they review their aggressive sales tactics a little.

Given their physical presence, I think they must be quite successful. I saw them in Gatwick a few weeks ago, but looking at their site they seem to have shops in most major UK airports, including Heathrow, Stansted and Luton. That would explain why they don't seem to put a limit on the number of tickets they sell, so it's difficult to tell what your odds are when playing for a supercar. The instant win competitions don't seem to be constrained either, but the ticket price is much lower (it falls as you buy more tickets in one go). They have been around for some time, and you can see the list of previous winners on their site, which is important to convince you that you too can win if you're lucky! The emphasis of their site is more on the prizes than on the competitions themselves, given that they don't have any other types of games. They also write some general overviews of the prizes, but to be honest I think they're not very detailed.

Overall, I think this is an interesting concept, and of course I like the idea of winning a car, who wouldn't? I do have an issue however with the lack of info on odds given the fact that they seem to sell unlimited tickets, especially because of their big physical presence in the airports, because you have to assume that you are playing against thousands of people. At a price of £20 for the supercar competition, it may seem a bit expensive for some people but after all, many people play in the National Lottery for a similar amount, and I have to think that your odds are better here for what is after all, a very desirable prize.

This one isn't for me, I didn't really like the man I spoke to in Gatwick, I just wasn't able to get a good enough feel for how many people play!
