We told you recently about Brian and Wendy Wilshaw's offer for people to win a Devon property with fishing. It seems this idea is catching on with more property owners in the current market slump. We found a new competition featuring the home of another couple, George and Sue Panis, also in Devon. We wonder if they know each other, or watched reports on the BBC and thought they would emulate the idea themselves after failing to sell their home normally?
Currently in their 60s, the couple are attempting to give away their six bedroom and five bathroom seaside house in Devon, called The Manor House, which they are currently using as a guesthouse. The house, which is located on the seaside and also features a jacuzzi and snooker room, has been on the market for two years, currently valued at £750,000. After two sales fell through during this period, George and Sue Panis decided to offer it to the public via a prize competition instead.
They are hoping to raise £800,000 for the property by selling 40,000 tickets, each costing £20. With £1 from each ticket going to two designated charities, Children's Hospice SOUTH WEST and MIND, the couple hope to donate £40,000 in the process. The rest of the revenues of the competition are intended to pay for the expenses associated with running the competition, including paying for stamp duty, lawyers' fees and promoting the competition.
To be in with a chance of winning the competition, just like the other Devon property competition we featured recently, players must answer a simple question:
Broomhayes Manor is set on the North Devon coast. Devon has borders with how many other UK counties?
We can tell you Devon borders with Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset... But you may want to click here for a map of UK counties to check for yourself. Alternatively, type in "UK counties" in google as we did in this link.
The competition started on 1st September 2008 and closes on 14th February 2009. For full details and to enter the competition yourself, please click to visit the couple's website, WinaDevonManor.co.uk. Good luck!
