Oldborough Retreat Devon property competition still not concluded

Oldborough Retreat property competitionWe have been following with interest developments surrounding the Devon property with fishing competition organised by Brian and Wendy Wilshaw last year. Although all tickets were successfully sold out two months in advance, the couple were forced to hold off picking a winner at the last minute due to legal constraints. Nearly three months later, the Wilshaws are still awaiting a satisfactory resolution of the situation.

In mid-October last year, we reported that Brian and Wendy Wilshaw were forced to postpone the draw for the winner of their property competition due to concerns expressed by the Gambling Commission about the legality of their house raffle.

We have been checking regularly the Oldborough Retreat website in the hope that the couple would be able to quickly find a solution to this setback. So far, the Wilshaws managed to garner good support from the public, including their local MP in campaigning their cause to other UK authorities.

According to the latest statement on their website, while the Wilshaws indicate they feel they are "on the final furlong now", unfortunately they "have received either no responses or disappointing responses from the Governmental departments" from which they sought help so far.

The couple is still exploring other solutions, such as changing the way in which the draw is organised: "Although we are sure we won’t start our competition again from the beginning, we haven’t completely ruled out altering the way in which we would draw our winner from the original plan of a random number generator. This is one of the options currently under consideration by the Barrister. If we do pursue any ideas we are currently considering, we will notify all entrants by email as well as on this site."

It is good to see that despite their previous setbacks, Brian and Wendy Wilshaw are still trying to find a solution to thie situation. With 46,000 tickets sold during the competition, there is no doubt that many people are watching these developments quite closely. For their sake, as much as for the players, we look forward to a prompt resolution in the next few weeks.
